Stephen Collins Foster
1826-1864
Often called the father of popular American music, the subjects of Foster's songs were usually about life on the southern plantations of America prior to the Civil War. His most well known songs include "Oh! Susanna", "Camptown Races", "Old Folks at Home", "Massa's in de Cold, Cold Ground", "My Old Kentucky Home", "Jeanie with the Light Brown Hair", and "Old Black Joe".
