The Drifters

The Drifters are truly unique in todayÕs world of coming and going popular music groups. And following their 25 year-long history is like reading a history of contemporary popular music. From their very first release on Atlantic Records, ÒThere Goes My BabyÓ ( which was also the first rhythm and blues record to incorporate violins), they were bound for stardom - with a 2 million seller under their belts in their first try. Over the next ten years there were 29 additional chart records (according to Billboard) accounting for nearly 20,000,000 sales of singles and over 8 million albums in the United States alone. In fact (source:The Book of Lists), only the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Bee Gees have sold more records over a more sustained period of time.

They have appeared in every major night club and concert hall in the United States from Las Vegas to 10 sold out appearances at New YorkÕs Madison Square Garden. They have literally toured the entire world including a recent one month tour to the Far East and highlighted by being chosen to represent the United States for the great Bicentennial tour of Russia in 1977. They have even appeared at the White House and at the home of the widow of the late Robert Kennedy in concert for Ted Kennedy and friends. Their television appearances have numbered nearly 100 over the years, highlighted by being the only group to made two appearances on ÒRoots of Rock and RollÓ, this yearÕs Twentieth Century Fox syndicated series.

The current act blends a tasteful mixture of their million sellers with contemporary standards, many in medley form and several lifted from their hot new Columbia album, ÒToo HotÓ, which promises to soar up the chart - all presented within the context of the Drifters famous patented choreography.
