Journey On A Garden Path
I took this photograph at McKee Gardens in February of 2008. Part of my inspiration for taking the photo was how the path represents life. When we walk through a garden, we can see the uniqueness and diversity of the flowers and plants. This is one of the aspects which make a garden beautiful and interesting. Similarly, when looking at one’s journey through life, we see how life can reflect a garden, because we all have unique experiences. If you look closely, you will see two people at the end of the path. Just as the path disappears into a vanishing point, you never know what the future holds, and that unknown mystery makes it interesting. The photo shows motion with the two people who are headed to an unseen place. That unseen place represents the unknown future.
I was partly inspired by the Renaissance artists, Masaccio and Donnatello, who were known as the first to use the "Vanishing point" in their works. The "Vanishing point" is a term used in perspective drawing where all parallel lines appear to converge. I thought the composition was interesting, with the water running parallel to the path, as it is unknown whether the water and the path intersect. This photo has been printed on Giclée paper. It was edited using Adobe Photoshop where the brightness and saturation were adjusted. The Photoshop dry brush filter was then applied.
